Peerflix

While we’re on the topic of DVD rentals this week, we’ve found another great service that you may want to check out!

If you’ve got a collection of DVDs sitting around your house that you rarely watch, this new service allows you exchange them in for new ones! The website acts as a facilitator between members.

Why use Peerflix? To save money of course, but there are some other great benefits:

New movies.
Why keep DVDs around the house that you’re not going to watch?

No rental fees.
Exchange your old movies for new ones for just $0.99 plus postage fees to mail the DVD!

No commitments.
Pay as you go with no commitments or subscription fees.

No obligations.
Use the service as much or as little as you want!

Keep the movies you want.
If you get a movie via Peerflix that you love, you can keep it! Peerflix is not a rental service, but rather a ‘trading’ service between members.

How does the service work?
You clean out your DVD collection and sign up for a free account at Peerflix. The system works on a “trade cash” basis. You earn “trade cash” to spend on DVDs owned by other members by trading in your old DVDs or by adding funds from your credit card. Once your account is set up, you select the movies that you want to receive. When it’s time to mail your DVD’s, you simply print out a mailer from their website and mail the DVD’s directly to other Peerflix members. That’s it!

If you’re a movie nut, this service definitely deserves a try. Sign up for a free account here.

Bottom Line: Get new movies without the new movie cost.

MyPoints

Want a free meal? What about free movie rentals? Or free clothes?

That’s pretty much what you get when you sign up at MyPoints.com! MyPoints is an online incentive program that offers a simple way for you to earn FREE rewards, mostly in the form of gift cards.

Signing up is fast, free and easy. All you do is provide your basic contact info (e-mail, address, etc.) and you’re part of the program.

Once you sign up, you’ll begin receiving e-mail advertisements. To earn rewards, all you need to do is click on the links in the e-mails that MyPoints sends you. Nearly every time you read an e-mail and click on the link at the bottom, you will receive 5 points.

MyPoints also offers opportunities to earn bonus points. Each e-mail that you receive contains an ad for a web site, product, or service. Some e-mails give you points for signing up for a free service or taking a survey, while others give you points for making a purchase. If you’re interested in the product or service, making a purchase will earn you a lot more points and help you get to your reward even faster.

You can earn additional points by shopping through their web site as well. For instance, if you’re planning to buy a product online at XYZ store, check out the MyPoints shopping section first. They have a large selection of online retailers that offer bonus points for purchasing through them. Earning points for a purchase you were already planning to make… what could be better than that?

On the surface, MyPoints may look like a scam or waste of time. Over the last couple of years though, I have earned many rewards from MyPoints including gift certificates to Olive Garden, Omaha Steaks, Blockbuster Video, Linen’s N Things, and more. I generally receive at least one e-mail from MyPoints per day, sometimes several. Clicking the e-mail links takes only seconds and the points build up faster than you think, even if you don’t make a single purchase! Plus, they offer an extensive selection of gift cards from books to restaurants to travel.

Bottom line: Get free rewards with minimal effort. A definite must if you have high-speed Internet access.

My Yahoo!

Are you a news junkie? Do you spend a lot of time online each day looking at multiple web sites for your news, weather, e-mail, and more?

Here’s a tip that will save you time online! Many of the large search portals now offer customized “start” pages. You simply sign up for free and then customize the page with the news that you want!

For instance, MyYahoo gives you the ability to personalize your Internet. Your page can include news from large sources such as CNN, Entertainment news & gossip, niche news such as NASA, and fun stuff such as odd-but-true news. You can add stock quotes (and track your investments!) or sports scores for your favorite teams. Plus, you can customize it further with local movie listings, weather, TV listings, and so much more.

You can even add feeds from your favorite web sites to your customized page so that you can see at once what has been updated.

For those of you that utilize free e-mail, such as Yahoo Mail, you can even include your e-mail in your start page!

Your customized page saves you time by providing you with information in one place rather than visiting several web sites over a period of time. Yahoo says, “It’s like having an assistant to bring you your favorite sections of the newspaper and tell you about your mail and appointments for the day.” I completely agree!

I signed up with MyYahoo many years ago and can’t live without it now.

Bottom line: Get the most from the Internet (and save time!) with a free personalized start page.
